4 Style Lessons To Learn From Pharrell

From penning, composing and producing chart-topping records for the biggest names in music and popular movies, to designing apparel and accessories, Pharrell Williams (or just referred to as just Pharrell) has done it all. Not only has he found immense success in his career, but with his daring sense of style, he also stands out as a fashion icon that is worth looking forward to for every red carpet that he walks on. Take a leaf from Pharrell’s style book and give some vigour to your outfits with these tips.

1. Accessorise

Accessories can make or break an outfit, and Pharrell knows this all too well. They are a key component of his outfits, and he does not shy away from his love for elaborate accessories. Since the musical powerhouse rocked a vintage brown tall Vivienne Westwood hat on the Grammys red carpet, hats have become his favourite go-to accessory and is what people remember about his style the most.

2. Get sporty

From the 80s and 90s, cool sports clothing for men and athletic-inspired silhouettes made a blip on the fashion radar, but only in recent times did sportswear become a force to reckon with in the fashion industry. But way before all the biggest fashion labels were inspired to introduce activewear into the runways, Pharrell had already stepped out wearing varsity and bomber jackets, playing to his boyish charm. While it can be a challenge to pull off sports attire outside of the gym, the key thing is to keep it neat, sleek and minimalist, avoid clingy fabrics or overly decorated pieces, especially if you are just trying this out.

3. Change things up

The red carpet showstopper definitely knows how to turn heads and make people sit up and take notice. For the 86th annual Academy awards, he eschewed the typical formal dress styles for men with his shorts suit, proving once again that there is no style risk too daring for him.

4. Don’t forget the classics

While he may be renowned for his wacky yet cool sartorial style, the fashionista also knows that you can never mess with the classics. He cuts a dapper figure in his classic black suit, accessorised with black velvet bow tie that would have probably looked almost cartoonish on any other mere mortal.

Diane von Furstenberg once said of Pharrell, “If cool was a person, it would be Pharrell, not just for his looks and sense of style, but for his kindness and openness.”

As Pharrell makes his way into his 40s, his style has gotten more unique with age. Not only has the man killed it in the music industry, he has also made notable collaborations with clothing giants Adidas and Uniqlo, just to name a few. With his success cemented with a Hollywood Walk of Fame star in late 2014, we cannot wait to see what other lessons we can learn from the stylish superstar on the red carpet.
