The recently descended Hallyu wave does not seem to show any signs of ebbing anytime soon! And for good reason too. Korean dramas are rather addictive, and keeps us swooning and yearning for more with their finely chiselled male leads and feisty female characters. The stories are heartwarming, tugging at our emotions. We smile when our biases are happy, cry when they experience pain and live their lives vicariously. Let’s delve a little deeper into the reasons for our attachment to these characters, shall we?

1. Irresistible male leads: Altruistic, intelligent, compassionate and devastatingly handsome-which girl wouldn’t fall for such a guy? Such is the manner in which all male K-pop leads are portrayed, which is why fangirls (and boys) go gaga over these seemingly perfect male specimens. Ogling at the impeccably sculpted bodies of the male leads in shower scenes just increases the collective thirst of millions of hormonal fans. There is simply no such scene in which these delectable leading men have looked non-photogenic.

2. Shippable Bromances: The loving banter between two attractive males is sure to make all the ladies sigh. However it’s not always fun and games-the male friendships featured on these shows can be rather intense, thus invoking the waterworks from the crowds. The friendship stands strong no matter how tough the circumstances, which succeeds in turning on the waterworks every single time.

3. Emotionally appealing soundtracks: Even if the songs are in Korean, the language barrier does not deter non-Korean speaking fans from falling even more in love with the drama. The gentle melodies and soul-crushing lyrics really succeed in bringing out all the feels.

4. Couples arguing: Even when couples in K-dramas argue over trivial or serious issues, it somehow manages to look exceedingly adorable. The pair are obviously so in love with each other, sometimes unknown to them (much to the agony of fans) and get along like a house on fire, causing fans everywhere to erupt into nosebleeds because of excessive cuteness.

5. Engaging Plotlines: Never mind if it is an engrossing romance or a riveting thriller-the elaborate storyline and character arcs always manage to keep K-drama fans on the edge of their seats, always making them look forward to one more episode.
