COLLEGE 101: Advice For Every Freshman

Going off to college marks the beginning of a fresh start, even if you’re in your sophomore or senior years. Each semester brings new promise and opportunity. For freshmen, college can appear intimidating, and the unfamiliarity of the environment, coupled with the newfound freedom can prove to be a sort of sensory overload.

To get the most out of college, here are a few things to keep in mind:

1. Dress To Impress? Nah:

The sudden freedom of curating your daily wardrobe can lead to serious fashion faux pas. Being comfortable and looking presentable are key to choosing your daily outfits for college. Wear comfortable shoes as you will probably be walking around a lot on campus.

Classrooms will be cold thanks to air-conditioning, hence remember to carry around an extra layer in the form of a jacket or cardigan in order to keep there. Ditch the notion that simple dressing isn’t fashionable

2. Bag That Stuff!

In the midst of the hustle and bustle of college life, it’s normal to become a little disorganized and lose track of all your things. (Don’t be surprised if you find your pencil case devoid of stationery.) To avoid losing valuables, invest in a bag that’s roomy and sturdy enough to house all of your myriad knickknacks.

3. Keep the Freshmen Flab at bay:

During the first two years of college, it is estimated that freshmen may gain weight ranging from an average of of 3 to 10 lb. While students overeat due to stress and other issues, it is wiser to channel that tension into productive activities such as exercise, sports or indulging in any sort of art form. Engaging in enjoyable activities, particularly exercise, releases happy chemicals such as endorphins. Eat clean, and discover a happier, healthier you.

4. Show off those pearly whites!

Proud of your milky white teeth and want to display them? Smile at one and all you meet! No seriously, even if you’re feeling particularly terrible, a smile will make you feel a shade better. It’ll also make those around you feel more at ease, especially if you’re prone to the dreaded RBF. (Yes, boys can have it too!)
