Athleisure is one of the decade’s biggest trends, and it looks like it’s not going away anytime soon — and why would it? It’s the perfect marriage of comfort and style.
As much as we love how comfortable leggings are, though, we admit that they’re not always appropriate. Athleisure staples like joggers and sweatshirts can look sloppy instead of stylish if worn haphzardly.
Below, we’ve put together some easy, street-style approved outfit formulas to upgrade your athleisure:
Crop Top + Leather Jacket
Put a spin on the cool girl-combo of a white top and black skinnies by switching them out for leggings and an athletic crop top (the extra daring can opt for a sports bra). Give your look some effortless polish with a leather jacket and fresh white sneakers.
Midi Skirt + Retro Sneakers
Use a pair of retro sneakers — the chunkier, the better — to balance out the femininity of a midi skirt. Pencil/bodycon skirts and A-lines work equally well for this formula. Top it off with a logo tee for a complete ‘90-inspired look.
Sports-Inspired Pants + Slingback Heels
If you’re not careful, joggers can veer dangerously into pajama territory, so keep it from getting too slouchy by pairing them with heels. Kitten heels are still comfortable, while a slingback strap contrasts nicely with joggers’ cuffed hems.
