The tradition to wear “lucky colours” stemmed from an ancient feng shui theory that wearing your lucky colours can help improve your fortune and bring you luck and happiness.
It might seem a tad superstitious for the scientifically inclined, but there’s no harm in sporting your lucky colour for the lunar New Year. As you shop for your Chinese New Year outfits, sneak in a piece of two in your auspicious colour (according to your zodiac animal) to get into the festive mood.
You probably don’t want to wear just one colour for the year, so here are a few ways you can easily incorporate it into your everyday OOTDs:
Lips and Nails
Let’s start small. Say your lucky colour is red. It can be hard to take on a hue so bold and eye-catching without looking like a walking red packet. Instead, you can add a dose of red on your lips or your digits for an extra oomph that isn’t too OTT.
Accessories
If you generally shy away from loud colours, work a small accessory into your outfit such as a purse or clutch, then pair it with neutrals to ground your look.
Outerwear
The good thing about outerwear is that you can always remove it anytime. Throw on a sweater or a jacket in your lucky colour, and it won’t even seem like you’re trying too hard.
Centre of Attention
